Studiowerk 003 : Diana Boss
Diana Boss live for those vocal grooves that constantly get stuck in your head. Treading the line between big room deep house and disco, their sound has a certain accessibility to it that keeps it recognizable and current.

Lets start off with your names and who you guys are:
Diana Boss is Sam Steele and Josh McRae.
What got you into electronic music?
Sam: What year was that? 2010? We'd been making some demo EPs for the few years leading up to that. But they were heavily R&B and soul based. In 2011, I was going to Berkley College for music in Boston, and that was when Avicii was rolling out and Calvin Harris was on the scene and that progressive sound was happening. It was new and exciting and especially in terms of production. That's when I jumped on board and started dabbling and learning Ableton Live.... Seeing Ableton for the first time. <laughs>
You guys do a lot of collaborations. What is something that surprised you that you found collaborating with another artist?
Josh: I guess the support for one thing. Like with I M U R, it was so cool to remix their track. We did it (bootleg) and they were very supportive in person. They came to us at Groundwerk. It was great to start that relationship, I think that was surprising to me. To get that feedback, it was cool.
Sam: I would say that the connection, the human connection, community, goes far. Through the remixes we've done and been doing, the bootleg stuff has been totally through the internet as of now. We never got to meet anybody. So it was super cool showing up at Groundwerk and meeting I M U R and having them hear the track we did together there and getting feedback right away. That's been surprising to me in the best way.
Whats a common misconception people have about Diana Boss?
Sam: I think the answer to this will evolve as we progress and start pushing our name out there a little bit more and connecting with more people and getting a few more chances to see first impressions with the people that we meet. I think there is an idea that we're DJ's and we're experienced DJ's, and I'll go on the record and say that we're not. <laughs>
Josh: I mean, I kind of float the question, what I am always surprised with when I meet an artist that I see online or on soundcloud is that they're just a real person. Which you miss a lot of that on the internet. You're hearing the music, seeing the pictures and the artist names and you finally meet the guy or the girl behind it and you're just like a real person and that you're into this or into that. It's always surprising just to see the actual person behind it rather than the persona.
What are some parting words from Diana Boss?
Sam: For the Groundwerk community and everyone else making music, putting our heads up against walls sometimes, keep going. Just keep going.
Josh: Just try to make as much music as possible. The 8 bar loops, the full tracks, remixes, bootlegs, whatever. Just try to make as much music as possible.
